Abstract

This study developed and validated an Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices-Based Workbook for Teaching Selected Topics in Science 1. The workbook consisted of five sets of lessons, which were based on the Philippine Secondary Schools Learning Competencies and K–12 Curriculum. The IKSP-Based Workbook    is a teaching material that utilizes cultural artefacts and cultural practices that make learning clear, and easily comprehensible to the learners. The workbook consists of four components: objectives, content, activities, and assessment. The study utilized the quantitative and qualitative methods which the data were gathered through a survey questionnaire and key informant interview with the cultural community. The ten (10) panel of experts who content-validated the IKSP-based workbook was composed of science experts who are secondary science teachers from Calanasan and Pudtol, Apayao, who belong to indigenous people. Using a five-point Likert’s scale checklist, the workbook was evaluated in terms of its four components and instructional characteristics. The data gathered from the content validation was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results indicated that the teacher-respondents degree of agreement on the developed instructional material is very high, as shown in the computed grand mean of 4.56 with its verbal description of being very satisfactory.
